Day 6 - Darren Xiangzi

“Children are a gift from God” Psalm 127:3

When we read (on Sonia’s blog) about a little boy in China who needed lifesaving heart surgery we couldn't turn our backs and just forget him.

In November 2012, after seven months of expedited paper chasing, we welcomed Darren Xiangzi into our hearts and our family.

Two years ago today Darren had his life saving heart surgery. He went from being a blue little boy who got out of breath just eating and couldn't run, climb stairs, or even play without getting winded to…

…a healthy six year old little boy whose favorite activity is RACING his brothers and sisters around the house!

One year ago Darren was back in the cath. lab getting a stent placed in his narrowed pulmonary artery. He has another checkup in April – we pray that all is looking well!

His stamina is amazing! This past summer he learned how to swim – even swimming to the bottom of the pool to retrieve toys!

Darren also dropped his training wheels and can now ride a bike!

Darren was L-TGA, ASD, VSD, PDA, dexicardia, and pulmonary atresia. He had a very complex heart surgery at the University of Michigan Mott Children’s hospital. Dr. Bove performed the Senning and Rastelli procedures. We are forever grateful to Dr. Bove, the staff, and God for saving Darren’s life!

(Darren became a BIG brother this year!)

Other procedures and surgeries may be needed over the years. Traveling this journey with Darren is SO worth it! I can’t begin to describe what an AMAZING child Darren is – silly, snuggly, curious, full of energy, demanding, and truly a gift from God!
